The assassination of nuclear physicist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh will not go unanswered, Iranian defense minister Amir Khatami said.

According to him, the purpose of the murder was to undermine the cohesion of society, but the people behind the assassination did not succeed.

Nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was killed in an assassination attempt in Tehran province on November 27. He was seriously injured and died in hospital. The Iranian defense ministry confirmed that the killed scientist was the head of the organization for research and innovation at the department.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif pointed to evidence of Israel's involvement in the assassination of a scientist, urging the international community to end the policy of double standards and condemn the act of state terrorism.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that the assassination of the nuclear physicist will not go unanswered. The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in turn, reported that it did not comment on the statements of the Iranian authorities about the involvement of the Jewish state in the assassination.
