Servicemen of the Russian peacekeeping contingent ensure the safety of civilian traffic and the movement of people, food and other goods through the Lachin corridor of Nagorno-Karabakh [(Artsakh)], the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

"(…) they accompany and ensure the safety of repair crews, which perform tasks of repairing of infrastructure facilities," the statement also reads.

The ministry added that since November 14, more than 26,000 refugees have returned to their former places of residence.

On November 9, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a joint statement on a complete cessation of hostilities— which Azerbaijan had launched on September 27—in and around Artsakh. Accordingly, Russian peacekeepers are deployed in the region to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire and the cessation of hostilities.
