Qatar has confirmed its willingness to mediate between Iran and the US a few days after the inauguration of newly elected President Joe Biden.

Qatar stands ready to mediate between Iran and the US as new US President Joe Biden takes office after the turbulent years of the Trump administration, Qatar’s MFA spokeswoman told the EFE news agency.

According to her, Iran and the Arab states of the Persian Gulf are geographic realities in the region and therefore need to start a direct dialogue.

Last week, Iranian FM Mohammad Javad Zarif welcomed the call of his Qatari counterpart, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, for a comprehensive dialogue between the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council and Tehran.
