Ahead of the session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin and Head of Rosatom Alexey Likhachov discussed the development of cooperation between Russia and member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) in the sphere of peaceful use of nuclear energy, the press service of the Government of Russia reported.

Rosatom is building the first nuclear power plant in Belarus and is working on the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan.

Rosatom and Armenia are cooperating for extension of the period of operation of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant. Based on the data of the Government of the Russian Federation, currently, there is a conclusion regarding the possibility of extending the reactor of the ANPP until 2026. Moreover, earlier, the Government of Armenia had announced its intention to extend the period of operation of the second energy block of the ANPP until 2026.

The company is also implementing a comprehensive plan for cooperation in the nuclear industry in Kazakhstan, envisaging implementation of projects.

According to Likhachov, the level of cooperation in the nuclear industry within the CIS may serve as a step to make the transition to a qualitatively new level of integration where there is great potential for the development of the nuclear industry within the scope of the Eurasian Economic Union.
