Facebook is considering introducing facial recognition technology into its future smart glasses devices, but only if people need the feature, Facebook head of hardware Andrew “Boz” Bosworth noted.

According to him, this is a discussion we need to have with the public as if people do not need this technology, we will not provide it.

Bosworth noted that there are ethical concerns about the many ways in which facial recognition, cameras, and microphones are constantly on, are abused.

He reiterated that Facebook plans to launch its smart glasses product in partnership with Ray-Ban manufacturer Luxottica in 2021.
