The United States is ready to discuss with the Iranian authorities the exchange of Iranians imprisoned in the United States for Americans convicted in the republic, principal deputy spokesperson, Jalina Porter, noted.

She was asked to comment on the statement of Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who again proposed an exchange of prisoners. "Well, of course we are always ready for – to engage meaningfully, in meaningful diplomacy with Iran, and we welcome them to join us at that table. And simply, this is just one of the many issues that we’d like to discuss with Iran and that we’re open to doing so," she said.

Earlier, Zarif said that Tehran has no reason to negotiate with the United States at this stage. According to him, Iran wants to see coordinated actions from Washington to return to compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on its nuclear program.
