Within the scope of an official visit to Lithuania, the delegation led by Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan today met with Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania Viktorija Cmilyte-Nielsen and Lithuanian parliamentarians, as reported on the official website of the National Assembly.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of relations between Armenia and Lithuania, and the Speaker of the Seimas stated that she is very pleased to host the Armenian delegation.

The Armenian parliamentary speaker highly appreciated the support that Lithuania provided to Armenia in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic and expressed gratitude to Lithuania for recognizing the Armenian Genocide, as well as for participating in the ceremonies commemorating the victims of the Armenian Genocide at a high level.

Touching upon the current situation around Nagorno-Karabakh, Mirzoyan stated that Azerbaijan continues to grossly violate the trilateral statement signed on November 9, 2020 and refuses to return Armenian prisoners of war and other detainees. In addition, Azerbaijan continues its Armenophobic policy, which goes to show once again that the Armenians of Artsakh can never live safely within the composition of Azerbaijan.

The Speaker of the Seimas stated that Lithuania continues to express concern about the return of Armenian prisoners of war and Azerbaijan’s assaults against Armenian cultural heritage.

During the meeting, the parties discussed a number of issues of mutual interest, and Mirzoyan informed his counterparts about the upcoming snap parliamentary elections in Armenia and invited them to conduct an observation mission in Armenia.
