YEREVAN. – Former mayor of Yerevan—and ex-Minister of Communication and Transport of Armenia—Gagik Beglaryan was not apprehended, but he voluntarily came to the country. Beglaryan's lawyer Hrant Ananyan told about this to NEWS.am.

"Gagik Beglaryan voluntarily came to the Republic of Armenia. He submitted a petition in advance and came to the body conducting the proceedings. He was not apprehended," said Ananyan.

But the attorney did not comment on whether he was going to appeal the decision on remanding his client in custody.

Also, Ananyan neither denied nor confirmed Armenian News-NEWS.am's information that a motion had been submitted with the court to release Beglaryan on bail.

Gagik Beglaryan has been charged under the Criminal Code articles on embezzlement or squandering, and abuse of official power

Beglaryan was declared wanted since March 23, 2020.
