The First Armenian-American Political Science Forum is being held Saturday in Armenia. It has been organized by the Armenian Center for American Studies, with the financial support of the US Embassy in Armenia.

In his opening remarks Suren Sargsyan, the founder of the Armenian Center for American Studies, said that this forum will consist of two parts. In the first part, the US in the field of regional security in the South Caucasus will be discussed, and in the second part—Turkey's role in the region, and Armenian-Turkish relations and their future.

US Embassy Chargé d'Affaires Ryan Campbell, for his part, noted that over the past three years, US-Armenia cooperation has made progress in a number of important areas, especially in reform. He stated that the US has actively worked with Armenia’s government, businesses, the media, and NGOs to help the country strengthen its rule of law, fight corruption, maintain sustainable and inclusive economic growth, invest in the educational opportunities available to the people, and build and maintain strong democratic institutions.

Campbell added that Armenia will soon hold snap parliamentary elections, which will be closely monitored. He noted that in 2018, Armenia was praised for protecting fundamental freedoms and public confidence in parliamentary elections, and they hope to see Armenia repeat—or even exceed—the high bar it had reached 2.5 years ago.
