GYUMRI. - Gyumri city police department was alerted that surgeon of medical emergency service Ashot Grigoryan, 65, was murdered on his duty on Sunday.

Ashot Grigoryan was killed by the son of the patient, whom he tried to assist, Gyumri first aid service chief medical expert Robert Tonoyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to him, the son of the patient, Artak Karapatyan, beat up the physician five times before and after entering the apartment.

“The group did not turn back, for the fear of letting the patient die. The medical assistance was properly rendered, however when they tried to return, he started beating again.”

According to the driver of ambulance Sargis Karapetyan, Artak Karapetyan pulled the doctor out of the car, dragged him upstairs and beat him up to death. He also punched the driver and the nurse, as they tried to stop him.

As for this moment, a criminal case has not been filed and Artak Karapetyan is apprehended. Shirak region investigation department says it is waiting for the conclusions of forensic medical expertise.

“How would we know true reason of his death was a beating? Maybe it was a sudden death. We are waiting for the conclusions of the expertise,” said senior inspector Vahram Beybutyan.
