Russian peacekeepers won’t leave Nagorno-Karabakh after 5 years. This is what first President of Armenia, candidate of the Armenian National Congress political party for Prime Minister Levon Ter-Petrosyan said during today’s press conference.

Ter-Petrosyan added that 95% of people in Armenia have the wrong idea that Russian peacekeepers will leave Nagorno-Karabakh in five years from now and read point 4 of the trilateral statement adopted on November 9, 2020 which reads as follows: “The peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation shall be deployed parallel to the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Armenia. The period of stay of the peacekeeping contingent of the Russian Federation is five years, with automatic extension for the next period of five years, unless any one of the sides announces the intention to terminate application of this provision six months in advance.”

Ter-Petrosyan called on everyone to spread panic by saying that the Russian peacekeepers will leave. “This means Azerbaijan can demand, and we Armenians and the Russians can leave. We Armenians need to do everything we can to make sure the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh stay there. In this regard, the interests of Russia and Armenia meet 100% because if there are no Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Russians must leave,” Ter-Petrosyan concluded.
