NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said that Georgia will become a NATO member, but no specific date has been set.

Stoltenberg added that Georgia and Ukraine are very important partners for NATO in the Black Sea region, with whom the alliance is strengthening cooperation, Novosti-Georgia reported.

When asked if a roadmap for Georgia is expected to be developed in the near future, Jens Stoltenberg said that the door to NATO is open, although there are no plans to talk about a specific date.

The NATO Secretary-General also noted that the Alliance will strive to prevent a conflict with Russia. According to Stoltenberg, it is necessary to prevent a repetition of what happened in Ukraine and Georgia.

Institutional cooperation between Georgia and NATO began in 1994, when Georgia became a member of the Partnership for Peace program.

At the 2008 NATO summit in Bucharest, it was decided that Georgia would become a NATO member.

Since 2009, Georgia has been implementing an annual national program, which is also one of the instruments for the country's accession to NATO. The document prescribes the implementation of reforms that will bring Georgia as close as possible to the standards of the alliance.
