YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd daily of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes: While pre-election passions are inflamed in the domestic political life of Armenia, new developments are taking place in Artsakh [(Nagorno-Karabakh)] and the region. Yesterday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had visited [Artsakh’s occupied] Shushi [city] with [Azerbaijan President] Ilham Aliyev. This visit has already been criticized by the RA MFA, which has no leader.

Of course, in this situation it is surprising not to have an official, but geopolitical developments do not wait for the end of the RA [snap parliamentary] elections [this coming Sunday]. Following the Erdogan-Biden meeting that was held yesterday, a Biden-Putin meeting is expected in Geneva on June 16, within the framework of which they will discuss strategic stability, the fight against COVID-19, the fight against cybercrime, as well as regional issues—including the situation in the Middle East, Ukraine, and Nagorno-Karabakh.

As we noted, before the Putin-Biden summit in Geneva on June 14, Joe Biden met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan; the agenda of this meeting had also included the topic of the Karabakh conflict.

It turns out that the new US administration has discussed the Karabakh conflict both at the meeting with Erdogan and will discuss at the forthcoming meeting with Putin. And while they are throwing mud at each other in Armenia, there are new developments in the world, from which Armenia is left out.
