German FM Heiko Maas considers new EU sanctions against Belarus inevitable.

The previous penalties affecting specific companies and government officials surrounded by the ruling in the republic Aleksandr Lukashenko are no longer sufficient, he told Die Welt.

The sanctions should be extended to whole sectors of the Belarusian economy, the head of the German Foreign Ministry said, citing the potash industry and energy as an example.

In addition, it is necessary to deprive Minsk of the opportunity to raise funds within the EU by issuing government bonds, Maas added.
