Humanity is too close to the threshold of nuclear annihilation, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres noted.

About 14,000 nuclear weapons are stored around the world. Humanity is still unacceptably close to nuclear annihilation, Guterres said.

According to him, the time has come to dissipate the cloud of nuclear conflict, destroy nuclear weapons in the world, and open a new era of trust and peace.

September 26 is the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.
