His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians today, escorted by a delegation, had a meeting with His Holiness Patriarch Kirill I of Moscow and all Russia in Moscow, as reported the Information System of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

“Greeting the Catholicos of All Armenians and his delegation, the leader of the Russian Orthodox Church touched upon the centuries-old fraternal relations between the two churches and talked about the friendly and cordial relations between the two peoples and countries.

In his turn, the Armenian Pontiff affirmed that Armenia and Russia have centuries-old strong and friendly ties.

Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh war and the objectives to overcome the consequences caused by the war, the Supreme Patriarch expressed his fraternal gratitude to the Russian Church and its Pontiff for the support provided to the Armenian Church and the Armenian people in that difficult period.

The efforts for peacekeeping made for a settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict were discussed during the conversation.

At the end of the meeting, Patriarch Kirill I of Moscow and all Russia conferred upon the Catholicos of All Armenians the First Degree Order of Glory and Honor of the Russian Orthodox Church for the contributions to the development of friendly relations between the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Patriarchate of Moscow and on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of His Holiness.

The Catholicos of All Armenians expressed gratitude and emphasized that he views the award as a sign of respect and love of His Holiness for and towards the Armenian people and Armenian Church.
