YEREVAN. – The hospitals are working with great overload, the bed capacity is full, the cases are quite severe; naturally, a quite worrying situation has been created in this respect. Romella Abovyan, head of the Epidemiology Department of Nosocomial Infections at the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health, told this to a press conference Wednesday—and regarding the coronavirus situation in Armenia.

"If the situation were good, we could have concluded that the number of most cases is due to testing among the 'healthy' population. However, it should be noted that people who have serious symptoms and need hospital treatment are applying to hospitals; this bespeaks that the cases are going quite severely," she added.

According to Abovyan, Armenia is now in the season of acute respiratory infections, the country has high rates of such infections, people often attribute their symptoms to these acute respiratory illnesses, and therefore do not go to the doctor.
