The presence of Russian peacekeepers in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) is uncertain in terms of prospects. Seyran Ohanyan, the head of the opposition "Armenia" Faction in parliament and former defense minister, said this Wednesday during a roundtable discussion.

"We [i.e., Armenia] are at the focus of geopolitical events and the interests of superpowers. It has always been so, but now the situation is different: the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem has penetrated Armenia and Artsakh and is putting pressure on Armenia and Artsakh, trying to expand its influence.

The problems we face in Gegharkunik and especially in Syunik [Provinces] can have serious consequences for Armenia. External and internal threats are knocking on our doors. In these conditions, active work must be done to strengthen the security system [of Armenia]," he said.

Ohanyan added that even though about a year has passed since the last Artsakh war, the Armenian state agencies have not assessed the whole respective situation yet.
