Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan today received the delegation led by Prosecutor General of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, as reported the Public Relations and Communication Department of the National Assembly of Armenia.

The parliamentary speaker expressed certainty that Mohammad Jafar Montazeri’s visit will contribute to the strengthening of the friendly ties between Armenia and Iran and assured that, as head of the legislature, he is ready to support the implementation of all initiatives that are in the two countries’ interests.

According to Simonyan, Iran’s role and potential for reduction of escalation and establishment of stability in the region is clear to see and that a brilliant example of this is Iran’s clear position on the inviolability of Armenia’s borders.

The parties touched upon peace and security in the region, including the detention of two Iranian truck drivers by Azerbaijani police officers on the Goris-Kapan motorway in Vorotan village.

In the context of interstate relations, Mohammad Jafar Montazeri underscored the key role of parliament. Considering security in the region a priority, he attached importance to the fight against the infiltration of terrorist groups, adding that security of neighboring countries is very important and interconnected for Iran. The parties stated that only in case of lasting and sustainable security in the region will it be possible to see effective development of bilateral and multilateral relations.
