By the decree of President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian, Arsen Avagyan has been appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to the Islamic Republic of Iran, as stated in the decree posted on the official website of the President of Armenia.

Avagyan holds a PhD in Historical Sciences, is a professor and a Turkologist. He studied at Yerevan State University and the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has been serving in the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has held various offices since 1994.

Earlier, by a presidential decree, Artashes Tumanyan was recalled from the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
