Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia Rustam Badasyan today met with Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration Mehdi Mir-Ashrafi on the sidelines of the International Customs Forum taking place on October 21-22 in Moscow.

As reported the Department of Information and Public Relations of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia, during the meeting, the parties attached importance to the activities for reconstruction and modernization of the Meghri border checkpoint, as well as for improvement of the transport flows between the border checkpoints of Meghri and Norduz.

On February 7, 2020, the Republic of Armenia and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development signed the “Meghri Border Checkpoint Program” loan and grant agreements for modernization and expansion of the Meghri border checkpoint.

The aim of the Program is to provide funding for reconstruction and modernization of the Meghri border checkpoint on the state border of Armenia due to the growth of flows of vehicles transporting people and goods through the particular border checkpoint. Modernization of the Meghri border checkpoint will also help intensify the North-South transport corridor and will promote transit transfers through the corridor.
