President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian today met with members of the Atlantic Council.

Before their visit to Armenia, the Council’s members visited Azerbaijan and Georgia. The aim of their regional visit is to explore the situation in the three republics of the South Caucasus, democracy and the activities of democratic institutions in the republics, as well as understand the causes of the realities in the region and the potential developments.

The participants of the meeting asked President Sarkissian questions about the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the developments of the past few years and the 44-day war, the post-war situation in Armenia, the level of democracy in Armenia, as well as future-oriented programs.

President Sarkissian particularly presented the essence of the Artsakh issue, talked about the 44-day war and the humanitarian issues that emerged after the war and stated that Azerbaijan hasn’t returned the Armenian prisoners of war to this day.

Talking about the modern world, President Sarkissian stated that the recent changes in technology and science have made the world unpredictable and unstable and added that the effective use of human resources serves as the major guarantee for having our place and being successful in such a world.
