The Court of Heavy Crimes of Baku ended the trial over the case of active member of the Azerbajiani Popular Front Party Agil Gumbatov. Haqqin.az reports that even though the Court announced the verdict sentencing him to 10 years in jail, the convict refutes the charge, noting that a provocation was organized against him and he hasn’t attacked anyone.

The member of the opposition party referred to the criminal case as revenge for criticizing the government of Azerbaijan.

Gumbatov was detained on August 11 and was charged for dangerously causing severe bodily injury with hooligan motives, for which a person may face 6-11 years of imprisonment.
