The UAE-Iran-Turkey corridor will officially become operational following a visit by Emirates officials to Tehran next week, said Javad Hedayati, General Manager at Road maintenance and transportation organization, Mehr reported.

He confirmed the launch of a new transit corridor through Iran between the UAE and Turkey, saying that a senior Emirati official who oversees the Emirates negotiations with Turkey is scheduled to arrive in Iran. According to him, about a month ago, the test drive of two Emirates trucks from Iran to Turkey was successful.

Earlier, an expert in the field of transit said that the new corridor would shorten the previous transit route by 12 days, which means that it will take cargo 8 days to reach the Turkish port via Iran from Sharjah to the UAE, while the previous the route crossed the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the Red Sea, the Suez Canal and all the way to Turkey, which used to take 20 days.
