Austria introduces mandatory vaccination against coronavirus for people over 18 years old from the beginning of February, RIA Novosti reports.

In order to successfully fight the coronavirus pandemic and protect the Austrian health care system, a high level of vaccination coverage is essential. Therefore, from the beginning of February, universal mandatory vaccination against COVID-19 will be in force in Austria, the website of the country’s Ministry of Health reports.

From the beginning of February until March 15, people who have not yet been vaccinated should receive the vaccine. The authorities will send a notification by mail. The start of this phase will depend on when the mandatory vaccination law comes into force.

From March 15, compliance with the obligation will be monitored, for violation there is a fine of up to 600 euros, in some cases the maximum fine can be up to 3,600 euros.

An exception to the obligation is made for persons under 18 years of age, pregnant women, persons for whom vaccination may be associated with health risks. In the case of recovered patients, the exception is valid for 180 days after a positive test for coronavirus.
