Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received Isabelle Dumont, Advisor to the French President's Cabinet for Continental Europe and Turkey, and Toivo Klaar, European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Trend.az reported.

President Ilham Aliyev expressed hope that France's presidency of the European Union would be successful and fruitful. The head of state recalled with satisfaction his meetings with President of the Council of the European Union Charles Michel and President of France Emmanuel Macron in Brussels on December 15 last year.

French President's Cabinet Advisor for Continental Europe and Turkey Isabelle Dumont thanked President Ilham Aliyev for receiving the delegation on January 20, the Day of Mourning for the Azerbaijani people. She said that she was making this visit together with representatives of France in her capacity of President of the European Union and the European Union. Isabelle Dumont underscored that the purpose of the visit was to hold discussions following the positive meetings held in Brussels on December 15.

Toivo Claar, European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus stressed the importance of the meetings held in Brussels in the frames of the 6th Eastern Partnership Summit of the European Union.

During the meeting there was an exchange of views on ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region, as well as on other issues of mutual interest.
