Japanese authorities have decided to reduce the period of quarantine from 10 to 7 days at home or in specialized facilities for those entering the country, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

It is said that the measures will come into force on January 29.

Depending on the situation with the spread of coronavirus in the country or the region of departure, those arriving in Japan are sent to special quarantine institutions where they spend part of their isolation period. For those arriving from Russia, this period is three days.

At present, only Japanese citizens, accredited diplomats and foreigners with permission for long-term or permanent residence can enter the country. At the same time, long-term visas already issued are subject to renewal. Very limited issuance of visas is also allowed in so-called exceptional cases, including for humanitarian reasons.
