The Security Council of the Republic of Armenia issued a statement on the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh, the press service of the Armenian government informed NEWS.am.

"The Security Council discussed the security situation around Nagorno-Karabakh at its today's meeting and assessed it as extremely tense.

The analysis of the situation shows that the Republic of Azerbaijan is preparing the ground for new provocations and attacks on Nagorno-Karabakh, trying to find imaginary justifications, including accusing the Republic of Armenia of destructive actions in the issue of the peace agreement.

Given this situation, the Security Council considers it necessary to reiterate once again the position of the Republic of Armenia, as stated earlier, and invites the Republic of Azerbaijan to immediately start negotiations on a comprehensive peace agreement.

Drawing the attention of the international community to the possibility of military clashes in Nagorno-Karabakh and on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the Security Council considers it necessary to launch international deterrence mechanisms to prevent a new military escalation and ethnic cleansing in the region," the statement reads.
