Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called Garo Paylan, an MP of Armenian descent from the pro-Kurdish Democracy of Nations party, a "traitor".

The Turkish leader did not like the fact that Mr. Paylan submitted the bill on Armenian Genocide recognition to parliament.

According to him, he "has no place in the country's parliament."

"We perceive [the bill] as an open betrayal in the highest instance," Erdoğan said in a televised address to the nation after the government meeting. He hopes that "necessary measures" will be taken against Paylan, who "amended the law and morality of parliament," TASS reported.

Ankara's prosecutor's office opened an investigation Monday into Mustafa Sezgin, an MP from the opposition People's Republican Party, for his Twitter post about the Armenian Genocide. The investigation is being conducted under the notorious Article 301 ("public insult to the Turkish state"), with a penalty of up to three years in prison.
