The EU should actively support the establishment of a peace process in the South Caucasus, German Ambassador to Azerbaijan Wolfgang Manig told Trend about this.

One cannot underestimate the importance of establishing peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

"We are pleased that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan are meeting with the assistance of European Council President Charles Michel. We want to encourage both parties to continue the important negotiation process," he noted.

According to him, the EU and its member countries should actively support the establishment of the peace process, in addition to supporting the reconstruction and demining process.

The envoy yesterday visited Shushi and before that he was in Aghdam.

"Recovery is underway, but we must understand that this is a very long process. The main issue on the agenda is the return of internally displaced persons to their lands,” he said.

According to the diplomat, Germany is extremely interested in contributing to the region's economy.

“Karabakh should not be a museum. It is a region for economic and cultural activities where people can find a good life,” said Manig.
