A group of 1,369 people dressed as vampires gathered at a 13th-century abbey in England to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Bram Stoker's novel "Dracula" and break the Guinness World Record, UPI reported.

English Heritage, which operates more than 400 cultural venues nationwide, said Thursday's record attempt at Whitby Abbey was officially declared the new Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people in vampire costumes.

The group sought to gather 1,897 vampires to commemorate the publication date of the classic novel on 26 May 1897, but the 1,369 people gathered Thursday was enough to break the Guinness record of 1,039 set in Virginia in 2011.
