Armenian News - NEWS.am presents the digest of top news of protests in Yerevan as of 08.06.22:

• Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrived in Yerevan on Wednesday on an official visit.

The minister flew to the Armenian capital from Ankara, where he held talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

During the talks, the sides have conferred about the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, Lavrov is scheduled to hold talks with his Armenian counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan and meet with Armenia's PM and president.

On Friday, the Russian FM will take part in the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization.

• 10 people were detained in Yerevan in the case of clashes between police and protesters during the protests.

On 3 June, there was a clash between law enforcers and supporters of the Resistance Movement at the intersection of Demirchyan and Proshyan streets. The law enforcers used stun grenades against the protesters. In addition, 15 people were brought as defendants. They were charged with organizing mass riots.

Ten of them were placed under arrest as a preventive measure. Four more persons were taken to a non-custodial measure. Apart from the 15 people in question, one more citizen was detained. A petition for his arrest has been filed. The preliminary investigation is continuing.

• The European Parliament commends the recent rapprochement between Turkey and Armenia over the decision to launch bilateral contacts, appoint special representatives and resume flights between the two countries, the report on Turkey, which was adopted today by the European Parliament said.

It is noted that MEPs consider this attempt a very positive development with a positive impact on prosperity and security in the region.

They urged both sides to continue these efforts with the aim of fully normalizing their relations and call on the EU to actively support this process.

• Russian President Vladimir Putin in a phone conversation with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi expressed condolences in connection with the train crash, which killed 21 people and more than 80 were injured, the Kremlin press service reported.

The sides also reaffirmed their commitment to continue working within the framework of the Astana format.

The Kremlin reported that Putin and the Iranian president expressed a mutual commitment to the consistent strengthening of Russian-Iranian relations. The conversation between Putin and Raisi noted the need to continue diplomatic efforts to reach an agreement on the Iranian deal.

• Ankara put forward 10 conditions to Stockholm and Helsinki, the fulfillment of which may prompt the Turkish authorities to reconsider their attitude towards the membership of Sweden and Finland in NATO.

The representatives of Sweden and Finland were presented with a package of demands during the talks held on May 25 in Ankara.

In particular, both countries must declare support for Ankara in countering terrorist organizations and adopt appropriate legislative acts. Sweden and Finland must close all organizations on their territory that are associated with the PKK banned in Turkey, their assets and media resources, and prevent their re-opening. In addition, Ankara is demanding that Stockholm and Helsinki lift the embargo on defense industry products and extradite people associated with terrorists. The Turkish authorities also proposed to establish cooperation in countering terrorism between the intelligence services of the countries.
