The United States will provide $1 billion in additional military assistance to Ukraine, President Joe Biden said in a telephonic conversation Wednesday with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“I informed President Zelenskyy that the United States is providing another $1 billion in security assistance for Ukraine, including additional artillery and coastal defense weapons, as well as ammunition for the artillery and advanced rocket systems that the Ukrainians need to support their defensive operations in the Donbas. We also discussed [US Defense] Secretary [Lloyd] Austin’s efforts in Brussels today to coordinate additional international support for the Ukrainian armed forces,” Biden noted in a statement.

“Today, I am also announcing an additional $225 million in humanitarian assistance to help people inside Ukraine, including by supplying safe drinking water, critical medical supplies and health care, food, shelter, and cash for families to purchase essential items,” the US President added, in particular.
