European Union (EU) countries need to increase their military spending, said EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell.

The diplomat said that EU countries should spend money on defense better, despite the fact that the EU is not a military association.

This is not about creating a European army, but about making European forces more cooperative, more capable of working together, Borrell said.

Borrell noted that the expansion of the EU will require a revision of the internal procedures for association.
