Germany will not meet its targets for phasing out fossil fuels and increasing the use of renewable energy by 2030 with the measures currently taken. This is stated in the report of the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW), AP reported.

He studied the goals that Chancellor Olaf Scholz's government has set for itself since coming to power last year.

Economists have calculated that the current adoption of electric vehicles, solar and wind energy will not be fast enough to achieve these goals.

The government's goal of putting 15 million electric vehicles on the road by 2030 will require the registration of 130,000 electric vehicles every month - up from 30,000 currently. The report says that the rate of installation of solar panels should triple compared to the rate seen last year, and the rate of installation of wind turbines should quadruple.

If the government does not want to fall behind in achieving its goals, it needs to take concrete and far-reaching steps soon, said Wolf-Peter Schill, an energy economist at DIW.
