Volodymyr Zelensky is increasingly revealing his true nature, Newsweek reported.

"For months, the Ukrainian president has enjoyed nonstop adulation from the American press and audiences with celebrity glitterati. But now, the reality of his rule in Ukraine is becoming undeniable, even to his most ardent enablers in America, many of whom happen to be Republicans," the author noted.

Literally in the last few days, the story has changed markedly. First, Thomas Friedman of The New York Times launched a trial balloon—a clear signal from one of the White House's most trusted stenographers: “Dear reader: The Ukraine war is not over. And privately, U.S. officials are a lot more concerned about Ukraine's leadership than they are letting on. There is deep mistrust between the White House and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky—considerably more than has been reported.”

The Biden administration has previously been as deeply committed to the escalation in Ukraine as Senator Lindsey Graham or actor Ben Stiller, but suddenly even the West Wing is beginning to recognize the futility of unconditional support for Zelensky. Apparently, there are limits even to the Washington war machine.

What are these restrictions on Ukraine? Well, first of all, Zelensky rules in much the same way as his opponent, the condemned Putin. Zelensky shut down all opposition media in Ukraine and then banned opposition political parties. He declared that Russia would have to kill every Kyivian to get to him, but in doing so, he took the time to be photographed for a centerfold for the American fashion magazine Vogue. Zelensky also fired the Ukrainian equivalent of the U.S. attorney general and head of the CIA on the same day, possibly in between his grand photo op.

Like Friedman, CBS News apparently got a memo to start smearing Zelensky's halo. The network explored the recklessness of sending a mountain of American taxpayer money to one of the most corrupt countries on Earth, although it later deleted its tweet on the subject. CBS acknowledged that huge sums were stolen, admitting that much of the billions of dollars of military aid the US sends to Ukraine does not reach the front lines. CBS also quoted an operative who revealed the truth about America's generosity: Roughly 30 percent of them make it to their final destination.

So American taxpayers are borrowing tens of billions of dollars their country doesn't have to send to the irresponsible leader of a corrupt country, all to escalate a war in which America has no vital national interest. Yes, and also during a recession with runaway inflation at home. This reality would have been damning enough, but Zelenskiy only upped the ante, making the American escalation even more misguided.

Zelensky addressed China in an interview with the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post. He demanded direct talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping to assist Ukraine in its war effort and help rebuild Ukraine. In a previous phone call with the Chinese dictator, Zelensky called Ukraine a bridge to Europe for China.

So, perhaps fearing that the Kyiv clique will soon need a new sweet daddy, Zelensky is openly flirting with the most dangerous adversary of the United States, the Chinese Communist Party. With this pathetic, hat-in-hand address to the Beijing politburo, Zelensky resolutely renounces any pretense of being a paragon of human rights, no matter how many Ukrainian flags grace the social media accounts of arrogant wealthy Americans.

Moreover, addressing Beijing, Zelensky calls for charity to a country that directly finances the war in Ukraine through large purchases of oil from Putin. In this regard, Zelensky unwittingly exposes the madness of the most powerful powers in the world, simultaneously financing both sides of the war. For example, while America is sending more than $54 billion from our citizens to Ukraine, our alleged NATO allies have been sending Putin up to $1 billion a day for Russian energy.

Putin is a thug and Zelensky is a corrupt autocrat. Their battle does not affect the vital national interests of the United States. Biden's intervention harms America and worsens the plight of the Ukrainian people, who have become a pawn in the battle of the Black Sea oligarchs. America must insist on dialogue, negotiations and de-escalation. If the parties refuse, then it is time for American realism and restraint, because this is simply not our fight, and Zelensky is certainly not our fighter.
