Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan signed a final additional protocol and agreement on the establishment of an international transport and transit corridor in the framework of the Ashgabat agreement, Mehr reported.

The event took place 11 years after the signing of the agreement between the governments of Iran, Oman, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Kazakhstan, Qatar and India later joined the agreement, and Pakistan is currently in the process of joining.

General Director of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Mämmethan Çakyýew emphasized that Turkmenistan had adopted 12 international transport conventions and included a policy of broad cooperation in the transport sphere, which began with the adoption of four resolutions in this area by the UNGA.

The meeting participants discussed ways to facilitate the visa regime for international road transport and remove obstacles to the development of bilateral road transport and transit.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari held a meeting with Turkmen Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers for Oil and Gas Affairs Shahin Abdul Rahmanov on the margins of the meetings.

During the meeting it was stated that thanks to the successful experience of pumping gas from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan via Iran, Tehran was officially ready to expand the transit of water fuel from Turkmenistan to neighboring countries.

The sides also discussed the issue of Turkmenistan's access through Iran to ports in southern Iran, such as Chabahar and Bandar Abbas, which provides access to international waters for Ashgabat.
