China's efforts to coerce and undermine Taiwan risk miscalculation, and its pressure campaign is likely to continue, said Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink, AP reported.

China used House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's trip to Taiwan as an excuse to change the status quo, endangering peace, he said.

These actions are part of an intensified PRC pressure campaign against Taiwan that we expect will continue to unfold in the coming weeks and months, he said. The purpose of this campaign is clear - to intimidate and coerce Taiwan and undermine its resilience.

Kritenbrink added that the United States had made it clear to China that its approach to Taiwan had not changed, including the US' commitment to the One China policy and no support for Taiwan's official independence.

According to him, the United States in every conversation conveyed to China that they did not seek a crisis and would not provoke one. U.S. lines of communication with Beijing remain open, and the United States will continue to operate conventional maritime traffic through the Taiwan Strait, Kritenbrink added.
