Germany should allow the pumping of Russian natural gas through the blocked Nord Stream 2 pipeline so that people do not freeze in winter and so that our industry does not suffer serious damage, Vice-President of the German Parliament Wolfgang Kubicki said, reports Politico.

The pipeline has been completed, but Berlin refused in late February to allow its commissioning because of the war in Ukraine.

Kubicki, a member of the Free Democrats (FDP) party, called for the pipeline to be commissioned as soon as possible in order to fill the gas storage facilities before winter.

According to him, there is no good reason not to start Nord Stream 2 because Germany already receives gas through the old Russian-German Nord Stream pipeline. Getting gas from Nord Stream 2 is no more immoral than from Nord Stream 1. It's just a different pipe, he said.

Kubicki noted that the launch of Nord Stream-2 will test whether Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to increase gas supplies to Germany.
