Car importers are protesting in front of the building of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) of Armenia.

They complain that the control fees of imported cars have been removed from the SRC website and are being raised by 25-30 percent.

Tigran Hovhannisyan, chairman of the League for the Protection of Motorists of Armenia, told reporters as follows: "Since May, there is a flow of thousands of Russian citizens to Armenia, and the business of buying and selling cars in Armenia is booming, we export a lot of cars to Russia.

For four years, we were able to find out the [cars’] customs clearance fees online in the SRC system; but as June 1, all those fees were lost from the online system. The [Armenian] tax authorities deleted those fees so that we would not know the control fees. They do this intentionally to increase the control fees; seeing that the [car] commerce is increasing, to demand a lot of custom fees from us. The control fees have already been raised, and the decision of the control fees has been given to the heads of the customs office; they will decide what fees to apply to people’s cars. Now they are raising the fees by about 25-30 percent."
