Mazda is considering halting production in Russia as supply chain disruptions caused by the war in Ukraine make it difficult to resume operations, Nikkei reported.

Mazda makes cars at a joint venture with local automaker Sollers in Vladivostok. According to research firm MarkLines, combined with Sollers' share, production at the plant reached about 29,000 units in 2021.

Production has already been halted, and Mazda is now considering a full exit. No decision has been made to discontinue sales or maintenance.

This comes after Toyota announced on Friday that it was pulling out of Russian operations. The departure of Japanese automakers from Russia and the ongoing shift to electric cars could spur a reorganization of auto parts production in Europe.

Toyota will cease production and sales, except for maintenance of cars already sold in Russia.
