Lebanon is expecting a written proposal from U.S. mediator Amos Hochstein regarding the demarcation of the maritime border with Israel by the end of the week, Lebanese President Michel Aoun said.

Lebanese Parliament Vice Speaker Elias Bou Saab met with Hochstein last week during a visit to New York and briefed President Michel Aoun on the results.

Hochstein is shuttling between Lebanon and Israel in an attempt to reach a compromise on the maritime border that would allow both to explore offshore energy resources.

The deal would eliminate one potential source of conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, which warns against any Israeli exploration and production in the disputed waters.
