Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, TRT Haber reports.

During the meeting, they assessed the latest developments in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the Turkish media reported.

During the meeting, Erdogan expressed satisfaction with the successful completion of the Russian-Ukrainian prisoner exchange, which they worked on for a long time, and the validity of the Istanbul agreement, which they drafted with UN support. 

Saying that the extension of the mechanism, which expires in November, is in the common interest, Erdogan said that they continue to work on the uninterrupted export of Russian fertilizers and grain products.

The Turkish president also said steps were needed to reduce tensions, and that Russia was expected to take steps to facilitate this process, especially with regard to the accession of certain regions of Ukraine to Russia.

Asking Russian President Putin to give the talks another chance, Erdogan said they were "ready to play a facilitating role in the process.
