A delegation from Sweden has met with Turkish officials to discuss Ankara's demands for the extradition of people it considers terrorists.

Turkey threatened to block Sweden's and Finland's applications to join NATO, accusing the two Scandinavian countries of ignoring Turkey's security interests and insisting that they change their position on Kurdish rebels and other groups that Turkey considers terrorists. Ankara also demanded that the arms embargo on Turkey be lifted.

Swedish and Turkish justice ministry officials began two days of talks to discuss the possible extradition of people linked to Kurdish groups or the Fethullah Gulen movement, whom Ankara accuses of organizing the failed coup in 2016, Anadolu news agency reported.

Last week, Sweden announced it would lift an arms embargo imposed on Ankara in 2019 following Turkey's military operation against Kurdish militias in Syria. The move was seen as a move to gain Ankara's approval.

Turkey's parliament has yet to ratify Sweden's and Finland's membership in NATO.
