German air carrier Lufthansa has banned its passengers from carrying an Apple AirTag included in their luggage, One Miles at a Time reported.

The gadget fell under the ban, because technically it is a microelectronic device with a data transmission function. According to the rules of carriage of dangerous goods of the International Civil Aviation Organization, such devices must be turned off when transported as luggage, as well as smartphones and laptops.

After the release of Apple AirTag in the spring of 2021, people began to often put trackers in luggage before flights to later track the location of suitcases and bags in case they go missing.

According to One Miles at a Time, Lufthansa is the first airline in the world to restrict the use of Apple AirTag. However, the editors of the publication do not exclude that this precedent could become an example for other companies to follow.
