The U.S. has not been active in terms of security in Armenia, but now the situation is changing. U.S. Congressman Frank Pallone said in an interview with Public Television from the U.S. the day before, Radio Liberty writes.

Pallone  said one of his goals is that they can play a little bigger role in the security of not only Armenia but also Artsakh, and he thinks it's alarming that Russian peacekeepers in Artsakh are also in some sense threatened, because Russia may decide that it doesn't want a peacekeeping contingent there anymore.

At the same time, he did not rule out U.S. security assistance either. Pallone thinks it's extremely important that they start playing a role now.He always thought it would be very good for Armenia to become part of the EU and to have close contacts with NATO. He thinks it's a very good opportunity for Armenia to look in that direction right now, because the Russian security pact doesn't seem to include Armenia, the congressman said.

Pallone stressed that they have not been active in Armenia in terms of security because there is a Russian military base there and Armenia is a member of CSTO which also includes Russia.

In fact, even today these circumstances have not changed. The congressman, however, did not specify to what extent this would hinder military cooperation between Armenia and the U.S.
