The U.S. and the EU are planning to publish a new roadmap on artificial intelligence that prioritizes security and risk management, Reuters reported.

Undersecretary of Commerce for International Trade Marisa Lago said the document will be released at the next U.S.-EU Trade and Technology Council ministerial meeting Dec. 5.

According to her, this is a mutual priority, the scope of which will grow as new AI applications come online and increasingly authoritarian regimes take a very different approach to security and risk management.

U.S. and EU officials believe the document will be an integral part of ensuring that new technologies are deployed in line with shared democratic values and free-market principles, she said.

It should also help ensure that U.S. and EU small- and medium-sized businesses are not locked out of new digital markets.
