Iranian authorities freed 38 protesters in the southeast of the country, which began after the death of a young Iranian woman Mahsa Amini, Tasnim news agency reported.

According to the agency, Amini died after she was detained by the vice police. The protests took place mainly in the provinces of Gilan, Khuzestan, Sistan and Baluchistan, Tehran and Kurdistan.

The Iranian government accused the protesters of Western support and calls to overthrow the government. The protests include systematic attacks on law enforcement officials and members of the large Basij military structure.
