Expansion of relations between Iran and Armenia in various spheres will serve the interests of the two countries and strengthen stability and security in the South Caucasus region, IRI Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani said during his meeting with Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan, Press TV reports.

According to him, the Islamic Republic is willing to further develop bilateral cooperation. For his part, the Armenian diplomat welcomed Iran's support for Armenia's territorial integrity and said Yerevan is determined to strengthen cooperation with Tehran, especially in the trade and economic sphere. He expressed hope that Iran and Armenia would continue to strengthen their growing ties.

Bagheri Kani and Safaryan also discussed recent developments in the region and stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between countries in the region.

Safaryan, who is on an official visit to Tehran, earlier met with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

Amir-Abdollahian noted that the opening of Iran's consulate general in the city of Kapan in October was a practical and important step to expand trade exchanges and economic relations.
