Ford Motor Co is recalling 634,000 SUVs worldwide due to a risk of fire due to possible cracks in fuel injectors and urges owners to check their vehicles.

The company said the recall applies to Bronco Sport and Escape 2020-2023 SUVs with 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engines, many of which were also recalled in April because the oil separator housing could crack and develop a leak that could cause an engine fire.

If a drop in fuel ramp pressure is detected, engine power is automatically reduced to minimize any risk and also allows customers to drive to safety, stop the vehicle and arrange for service, the company said.

The recall covers about 520,000 vehicles in the U.S. and about 114,000 vehicles in other countries.

Ford said it is not asking owners to stop driving cars as part of the recall. The company predicts a low frequency of fuel injector failures with external leaks.
